The exercises were intended to give you an idea of the sort of thinking and the intellectual challenges that you will have the opportunity to explore if you study Culture and History. Multiple choice examinations are not a common form of examination in this major – instead, you will often have to write analytical and interpretive essays.
The choice of topics is simply arbitrary – Culture and History allows you to study many different cultures and histories. But for this very reason, it is important to be able to think carefully, precisely, and analytically about topics that may be unfamiliar to you.
